Matt McKinney
She’s alone in space.
So she starts making things.
Soft Squishy Things is a lo-fi scifi odyssey in miniature: an intimate performance where a lone trans-fem astronaut survives isolation by transforming everyday objects into companions, worlds, and pop-culture rituals.
Inside this part object-theatre, part cosmic universe, nothing is wasted, everything and everybody is transformed into a friend, a first contact… a reason to keep going.
A Kleenex becomes an alien pet and marshmallows terraform new worlds.
Balancing humour, tenderness, and existential absurdity, Soft Squishy Things asks what happens to soft bodies and vulnerable hearts when they are propelled into the vast machinery of space, and how we continue to search for connection, even in the void.
Come for the DIY sci-fi. Stay for the soft squishy feelings.

Praise for Ghost River Theatre’s GIANT – a previous Rose and Leveroos collaboration
“From concept to execution, Ghost River Theatre’s Giant is an awe-inspiring achievement… they have crafted a show that dazzles with its inventiveness, originality and theatricality.”Calgary Herald
Praise for Ghost River Theatre
“…Ghost River Theatre isn’t just pushing boundaries—they’re demolishing them. Other theatre companies should take note. This is the future of performance: bold, uncompromising and raw. I left with a head full of questions about what theatre can be when it stops trying to be theatre.” Josie Simon – Calgary Guardian
Praise for Macromatter’s High Water
“It is simply beautiful to watch. … Robin invests every object that enters and leaves the filling pool with such loving attention to detail that the sheer joy of experimentation and richness of detail become captivating in themselves.”” Antonia Girsch – Schaubude Blog

This year’s Festival theme, Fight | Flight brings forward urgent creative responses to this troubling moment in time. Across the 2026 Festival, artists root themselves in place, community, ancestry, and practice, while also shifting perspectives, rewriting histories, and creating new narratives through the body, exploring memory, consent, transformation, and identity, through resistance, humour, and intimacy.
