Dear SummerWorks community,

Today SummerWorks is announcing the postponement of the 30th anniversary edition of our annual 11-day August Festival.

This decision has been made out of care for the wellbeing of our artists, audiences, staff, volunteers and wider community. Since the scope of the COVID-19 health crisis came into full view, bearing witness to the steady losses felt throughout the sector has been devastating. We feel the genuine impact this has on you and our community at large, and we share in the grief of these losses.

We have, however, been fortunate to have enough time to adjust, be responsive in this moment, and dramatically reimagine our plans. This summer we will be presenting a continually unfolding summer season of free programming that can be enjoyed remotely. This series of work will connect artists and audiences across the country and beyond from May through September 2020.

We want to acknowledge this wouldn’t be possible without the support of artists, staff, creative partners, our Board, artistic advisory, sponsors, and donors who have been open to this change of direction and finding ways to collaborate so that we can accomplish more and make the most positive impact together.

We believe this revised format will best allow us to remain nimble and sustainable with less resources and be able to adapt to health and safety requirements. We will be announcing programming throughout the summer so that we can respond in the moment to shifting conditions.

As we continue to plan, we will be looking for ways to keep our community connected, as well as staying in touch with you.
