Title: Technical Director

Fee: $16,000 CAD

Engagement Conditions: Full-time Contract


ROLE OVERVIEW

The Technical Director oversees the planning, procurement, install, changeover and load-out of all production and technical elements for our multi-site 11-day Festival; ensuring the smooth, safe, and successful delivery of programming for artists and audiences.

 

Reports to: Head of Festival Production & Operations


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops & manages master production budget in collaboration with the Head of Festival Production & Operations.
  • Prepares and distributes Technical Packages to artists.
  • Modifies and distributes technical questionnaires for artists.
  • Costs and sources technical equipment for all SummerWorks produced shows/events including Opening/Closing Parties.
  • Sources additional technical equipment for productions and venues as required, ensuring the most cost-effective solutions.
  • Responsible for onboarding and overseeing production and technical staff across all Festival venues.
  • Arranges and schedules venue walkthroughs for Festival artists.
  • Plans load-in and strike of Festival venues in collaboration with Festival Production Managers.
  • Manages relationships with suppliers.
  • Contributes to Festival and venue post-mortems. 
  • Completes all reconciliations related to petty cash and production expenses.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of production/technical experience in a Festival or event capacity.
  • Experience planning and executing complex live events. 
  • Experience managing large teams.
  • A passion for the performing arts.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to quickly start projects and form relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, or equivalent.
