Title: Head of Festival Production & Operations

Start Date: May 2, 2022

Fee: $52,000 CAD (pro-rated for contracted period) 

Engagement Conditions: Full-time Employee


ROLE OVERVIEW

The Head of Festival Production & Operations provides leadership and management in all areas of production and operations for our multi-site 11-day Festival; ensuring the smooth, safe, and successful delivery of programming for artists and audiences.

Reports to: Artistic & Managing Director

Direct Reports: Production Managers (4), Production Coordinator, Technical Director, Patron Services Manager and Volunteer Coordinator


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the planning and execution of all production and operation elements related to the Festival programming, including, but not limited to performances and events in theatres, galleries, parks, city streets, and on digital platforms. 
  • Develops and maintains the critical path for the Festival in collaboration with the Artistic & Managing Director.
  • Assesses production needs of various Festival programming, and makes plans and recommendations as required.
  • Reviews venue contracts and liaises with venue staff as required. 
  • Reviews requirements for permits and licenses and manage the applications for these.
  • Develops & oversees the master production and logistics schedule.
  • Develops & manages master production budget in collaboration with the Technical Director. 
  • Manages the hiring and contracting of all Production Staff such as Designers and Technicians. This individual is also responsible for training and onboarding new staff.
  • Development of Manuals and tools for Festival Staff and Volunteers.
  • Ability to manage and support a production team in a remote working environment.
  • Oversees the development of the Festival’s Emergency Procedures and H&S Plan. 
  • Must have valid and current first aid certificate
  • Oversees the development of systems for communication, reporting, and organization related to Festival production and operations.
  • Manages the inventory of SummerWorks’ production resources.
  • Runs production workshops for artists as required.
  • Contributes to Festival and venue post-mortems.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years production/operations management experience in a Festival or event capacity.
  • Experience planning and executing complex live events. 
  • Experience managing large teams.
  • A passion for the performing arts.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to quickly start projects and form relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite or equivalent.
