SummerWorks Exchange

SummerWorks Exchange is a series of events to facilitate artist and community growth, to strengthen the ecology of live performance in Canada, and expand our dialogue and collaboration with the international arts community. Including training and networking opportunities between artists and curators from Canada and beyond, the Exchange is the place where we come together to share and connect, confront the big questions facing our community today, and make plans for the future.

This year the SummerWorks Exchange is offering workshops, presentations, and an open space sessions focused on ‘systems change’: looking at how to created conditions for change, enact change and alternative models for producing, collaborating, and making work. Artists will also have the opportunity to pitch new works in open studio and social settings.

The SummerWorks Exchange has been made possible by the generous support of the Toronto Arts Council’s Open Door Program.

Systems Change Open Space

Can we keep doing this? Change comes when a community rallies together with an idea, time, and resources. It is time to shift the ways we make and work together. Instigations from various sectors, including theatre, music and gaming, will suggest alternatives to current systems, make recommendations for what is needed to create a healthier and more sustainable ecology and spark smaller discussions among those in attendance. Be prepared to commit to a new future. This is a space to talk about what we will do and find folks to do it with. Do you have an idea that needs more momentum? Bring it here to find collaborators and resources.
