Trigger Warning: the play is about the aftermath of a suicide.
This Is How We Got Here is about the enduring resilience of the human spirit in times of sorrow, and the capacity we all have for forgiveness. Lucille and Paul have lost their son Craig to suicide. Through a non-linear narrative, the broken pieces of a story come together in a heartbreaking journey to find a way forward after the death of a child.

"Barker is a writer who toils over every moment in his plays with a full heart. Every sentiment is personal, yet every sentence is unique to the character speaking. In this way he surrenders his creations to story, letting us in to experience this created world with our own hearts. While this play is sparked by loss, its telling carefully carves out a road back to love for the living, through memory and forward motion." - Tara Beagan
