Soliloquy in English is a book for multiple voices about the language that connects them. In each performance, Vancouver-based artist Patrick Blenkarn invites a small group to share in reading the book out loud and to bring to life a collage of stories and experiences about learning and living in English—the dreams it makes possible and the marks it can leave behind. A reading circle, a lyric essay, a documentary for the ear and mind: Soliloquy in English is Blenkarn’s attempt to pull this lingua franca back upon itself, to get us talking about how we are talking, and wonder at what it means to share this language today.

"I am very pleased that Vancouver artist, Patrick Blenkarn, is able to share his thought-provoking new work to Toronto audiences. It is the only piece to be set in The Theatre Centre's Green Roof, a quiet space away from the immediate festival hoopla. This is to allow the small audience to hear one another easily, while also offering a pleasant oasis for deeper conversations to emerge from the questions posed in Patrick’s text. I was deeply impressed by nuances of his proposal, so I encourage audiences to book tickets in advance to ensure a spot." - Cathy Gordon
