A new site-specific work by Mairéad Filgate, one small thing is an intricate choreography of the everyday. Responding in the moment to their surrounding environment, performers Bill Coleman, Robert Kingsbury, Marie Lambin-Gagnon, Meredith Thompson, and Danny Wild fade in and out of view. As the audience, too, becomes part of the architecture of the dance, the choreographic beauty already and always present in public space is uncovered and the line between ordinary and performance is blurred. The work challenges us to see our surroundings anew, finding beauty in the mundane.
Created by Mairéad Filgate in collaboration with the performers; Performed by Bill Coleman, Robert Kingsbury, Marie Lambin-Gagnon, Meredith Thompson and Danny Wild; Choreographic Advisor by Ame Henderson; Photography by John Launer.
"These exceptional performers take residence in public space to look at what already exists, creating choreography from and in real time. Noticing, looking, and seeing, their observations become part of the fabric of the body and through this they highlight their creative surveillance for us the viewer, while details of gesture and functional movement become interwoven with their environment." - Jenn Goodwin
