Inspired by our collective nightmare of being followed and the manifestation of this in film culture, dancers enact various chase scenes in combination with video cameras displaying live feed projections. Real, living bodies in motion blur with the spectacle of filmic bodies on screen to create DIY film studio theme park ride exploring how the emotional makes way for the physical and how the psychology, adrenaline, and intense fear of the pursued manifests in the inherent impulse of forward motion.
“Hon is mesmerizing…she is an orgasmic object of desire, at another a contortion of pain…” – Robert Enright, Border Crossings Magazine
“Ming Hon’s Chase Scenes #1-58 is a visceral performance and cinematic journey which grabs the viewer by the throat and whispers jokes into their ear.” – Seema Goel, Critical Distance, aceartinc.
Created and Choreographed by Ming Hon; Featuring Ming Hon; Supporting Cast Featuring Hilary Bergen, Hilary Anne Crist, and Trevor Pick; Lighting Design and Technical Production by jaymez; Video by Kayla Jeanson and jaymez.
"Ming's work uses the repetition of a theme to illuminate gender politics while being simultaneously perversely entertaining. This is a boundlessly creative work from an artist who is relatively new to Toronto." - Michael Rubenfeld
