Ladies and gentleman! Is love biochemical? A vibration? An act of fate? A gift from God? A punishment?
Every night at the Paddock Tavern, a troupe of love experts – age 7 to 97 – grapple with love’s mysteries in a free-flowing, ever-changing spectacle. The dashing MC passes the mic to the audience and conducts a heartbreak survey. Showers of rose petals, a forlorn bartender and a singing videographer all come together to form a startling showcase of true and not-so-true stories.
Theatre-maker Baņuta Rubess has a long list of productions to her credit, including love-addled operas and wild extravaganzas on a beach. Julia Aplin is a veteran of crossing artistic boundaries, creating dances for wading pools, cyberspace, and boxing rings. #7Love is presented by Froth, a company devoted to interdisciplinary performance.
Created by Julia Aplin and Baņuta Rubess with the ensemble; Performed by Augusto Bitter, Courtney Ch'ng Lancaster, Leah Cherniak, Emma Kerson, Richard Alan Campbell, Mimi Warshaw, and special guests; Design by Deb Lim; Stage Managed by Helin Gungoren; Videography by Anna MacLean; Technical direction by Elyse Waugh. Produced by Laura Philipps.
"Theatre veterans Banuta Rubess and Julia Aplin have made a host of exciting work in Toronto and around the world for over 30 years. Now they join forces to investigate that eternally green theme: Eros. Contemplate the breath, the bodies, and words of love with them and their varied collaborators over a long, cool drink." - Guillermo Verdecchia
